Video: Brett Favre was mocked in live episode of '30 Rock'

The advantages of putting on a live show, like "30 Rock" did Thursday night on NBC, is that you can pepper in timely jokes like ones about Chilean miners, FOX News and certain text-message sending quarterbacks:

All right, that's not bad. And it's good to see the ol' misprounouncing-Brett-Favre's-name joke is still getting laughs in writer's rooms 13 years after "There's Something About Mary."

Should the Vikings bench Favre?

Posted: October 25th, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Minnesota Vikings, Brett Favre, Deion Sanders, Brad Childress, Michael Irvin

Is it unthinkable that Vikings coach Brad Childress could bench Brett Favre?

Childress wasn’t happy with Favre’s decision-making in Sunday night’s 28-24 loss to the Packers, and admitted he considered pulling the quarterback amid three second-half interceptions. Favre re-injured his gimpy left ankle, and for the second straight week stood at a podium and wondered if he could continue extending his NFL-record streak to 292 consecutive games.

NFL Network analysts Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin agree it’s not the right move … for now.

“They need to think about benching Favre, because he’s not the guy we saw a year ago,” Sanders said. “Right now Brett is under a lot of scrutiny because of his off-field endeavors. He’s under scrutiny because this team isn’t [winning]. Would I bench Favre? No, not right now. I would give him a couple of more games.”

Added Irvin, “It would be hard to bench him, because what message do you send to the team, after sending guys down to go and pick him up? Are you saying you’ve given up on the season and you want to start working toward the future?

“But when I see Brett at a press conference talking about that he doesn’t know about playing next week, when my team is in a hole, I want him talking to the rest of my team during that press conference talking about ‘I don’t know what I need to do, but I’m going to get it done, and I will be on the field next week to give it all I have.’ That’s the message you need to send to the locker room.”

Roundup: Favre has ankle fractures

Posted: October 25th, 2010 | Adam Rank | Tags: Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Brett Favre, pierre thomas, Randy Moss, Jonathan Stewart, Tarvaris Jackson, Steven Jackson, DeAngelo Williams, Reggie Bush, Philip Rivers, St. Louis

Vikings QB Brett Favre is in a walking boot and has two fractures in his surgically repaired left ankle, though the ankle injury is not as severe as the fractured ankles of those currently jumping off the Vikings’ bandwagon.

Favre’s status is in doubt next week against the Patriots — which is not a bad matchup, even though Chargers QB Philip Rivers had limited success with practice squad receivers. QB Tarvaris Jackson will get the start if Favre cannot go, and I certainly like him better with WR Randy Moss than I would have earlier this year.

Some other injuries revealed on M*A*S*H Monday:

St. Louis RB Steven Jackson had surgery on his left ring finger, and is day-to-day. Jackson says that he will not miss a beat, and that he figures to rush for 100 yards, but not score a touchdown this week. Or something like that. Jackson has a great matchup against the Panthers this week. Carolina has been vulnerable to fantasy running backs.Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams is day-to-day with a sprained foot. The Panthers running backs, when you throw in Jonathan Stewart, have been wildly disappointing this year.RB Reggie Bush is returning to the Saints, and not a moment too soon. His presence should help make the offense more dynamic — good news for you struggling with QB Drew Brees. The Saints have been going with RB Chris Ivory, and coach Sean Payton got contentious when pressed on a perceived ‘tiff’ with RB Pierre Thomas. Though, there was no update about Thomas’ status.

The key will be Wednesday’s injury report, so be sure to check back.
